What does bg stand for ? Does Walt record each trip in a logbook?
The weather was suppose to be "iffy" today, with a good chance of thunderstorms by afternoon. So we decided to fish locally, as opposed to going all the way to the reservoir today. That way, if the weather took a turn for the bad, we could get off quickly and get the boat home safely.
Launched at 7 am and started fishing by 7:15 am. Air temp was 66 degrees and the water was 68 degrees. The air quickly warmed to over 80 by 10 am. Water was heavily stained. We ended up with exactly 100 fish when we pulled off at 11:15 am. Too darn hot out there! Most were crappie with a few bluegills. We got "bit off" (pike) several times, but it was worth it!
Didn't seem to matter what you were throwing. We fished with paddle tails, straight tails, curly tails and Roadrunners. The smaller (majority) of the crappie were in 3' - 4' of water, out in the middle of a sunny flat. Most of the better crappie were shade orientated. They were congregated under overhanging trees and brush. Here are a few pictures of mine:
And here is the giant of the day which Walt nailed on a CB Slider Grub (paddle tail):
For this area, this is a real trophy fish! Everything was caught and released. And just for clarification, here's a shot of our "tally sheet" which Walt keeps track of. Gotta get one of those clicker gizmos one of these days!
All in all, a great to be on the water with one of the best fishing partners anyone could ask for. Won't be going back on the river now until the craziness of the holiday weekend is over and past. Hope some of you were able to take advantage of the fine fishing opportunities available this time of the year up here.
