Memorial Day is just that - Memorial Day, not Veterans Day. It's for us to remember those who have died for our Country, fallen in battle. I know, my dad died many years ago because of a conflict in Southeast Asia. Memorial Day means something to me. I have more than one folded flag from military funerals.

That's what Memorial Day means to me.

Your right Randy..................
Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day and was initiated to honor the soldiers for the Union and Confederate armies who died during the American Civil War.

Celebrations honoring Civil War heroes started the year after the war ended. The establishment of a public holiday was meant to unify the celebration as a national day of remembrance instead of a holiday celebrated separately by the Union and Confederate states. By the late 19th century, the holiday became known as Memorial Day and was expanded to include the deceased veterans of all the wars fought by American forces. In 1971, Memorial Day became a federal holiday.

The original national celebration of Decoration Day took place on 30 May 1868. When Memorial Day became a federal holiday, it was given the floating date of the last Monday in May. Since many companies close for the holiday, Memorial Day weekend is three days long for most people. It is the unofficial beginning of the summer vacation season that lasts until the first Monday in September, which is Labor Day.

The Wall is a memorial. I dedicate the memorial to all my pals who were there and lost more than life after return to what we refereed to as "the real world". It wasn't the real world, it was a let down to lots of us who returned. We don't forget, we just deal with it.

I was there and can say when that 707 left Saigon with me on board and got out of rocket range that was probably the best day of my life. A good friend was left over there and never found his body. God bless those who gave all.

This is a day of remembrance that I always fall short of the right thing to say. How do I , who never had the chance to serve, thank someone who gave all for me, whom he never met. My thoughts are with all of you who left someone behind who covered you when you could not. Thank you one and all.
