    Default Cast and retrieve

How often do you cast and retrieve vs some form of still fishing/jigging?

Since getting out fished about 150 to 3 by one of our local experts (Fishdoc) I just about always cast, count down, and retrieve

If I am not trolling I am casting and retrieving or vertical jigging covering ground.

Same here. Been doing it for forty years now. When it stops working, I'll try something else.

About 80 percent cast and retrieve...cause I enjoy it. Sometimes I long pole and it works good if the fish are in a negative or neutral mood. Now some bodies of water you'll do better with other methods on a year round basis. I need to slow down and relax more than I do...funny thing is when I was younger use to do a lot of bobber and tight line fishing and such...now I'm an old grandpa and I'm throwing my arm off.... what got into me... I can't figure it out????

The majority of my fish this year have been caught casting tube style jigs. In thinking about it I have caught on under a bobber and the remainder casting. I have never spider rigged and only fished with two rods drifting a few times in my life. Now, next trip I should be vertical jigging. I like single rod single jig fishing. Never caught a crappie on a minnow, no plans to change that anytime soon.

More often then not I'm jigging over brush on the main lake I fish. There's another lake I go to where slow trolling seems to work much better and occasionally we will long line there as well.I think the way you fish can change depending on the situation.

We usually drift if there is a breeze. If not, we're casting jigs. Occasionally, we vertically jig. You have to be versatile first & foremost. And willing to change with the attitude of the fish. The worst thing you can be is a "one method Pete".
