Sounds like green worms to me
I have a question I have found a type of earthworm I'm not sure what it is. It is about the size of a number 2 pencil wiggles more like a snake when you try to pick it up very fast and shoots a green slime out when you try to put a hook in it. My friends and I have come to call them nucular nightcrawlers but would like to know what they actually are and how to buy them. We have found that some fish prefer them over standard nightcrawlers. Thanks for your reply.

Thanks for the reply Craig I will get a picture put up as soon as I can I am out of them and will have to wait for the next hard rain to find more. I live in Linn county a few miles form the Marais de Cygnes river. They look just like a Canadian night crawler you buy at the bait shop but longer and the clitellum on them is much lager than the standard worm you buy. They do not smell bad are not green in color. Thank you for you the time you put in on this board and answering everyone's questions.

Sounds like what we call jumping worms. You touch them and they go crazy.
If they are "Jumping Worms" .... then ya'll better read this : NRRI: Unearthing a new enemy

Now this is not scientific by any stretch of the imagination. But when I was a kid there were a couple patches of woods that were in low lying areas along creeks...very moist and shaded...that we use to just turn over the leaves and pick up a worm sort of like you described. They wiggled like crazy...shot out some real slimy goo ( I think it was green or yellow greenish maybe.) We just called them leaf worms. They were slightly smaller than the standard nightcrawler we have around here but we got some huge night crawlers.I live in an area of a real wide bio diversity. We have a lot of varieties of insects etc. These things were different than red wigglers and nightcrawlers.
I pick up worms under leaves in the hill country here in Missouri too but they are mostly just red worms. These things were different. But being at that time we didn't put a lot thought into exactly what something was,and we usually had some name we attached to things anyway , just a bunch of hicks.
