Garlic sent does crappie like it or not, I read in some mag somewhere that cappie didnt, like it. I do know cats, like it and I guess carp, and bass, tho I dont fish for the last two.
Will throw this out one spring a buddy and me were fishing the spawn, and who ever had, a berkly maggot on with his minnow, usually got the first hit.

If you read alot about crappie fishin you will find that there are alot of contridictions out there some say yes some say no about a number of topics,my personal experience with garlic tells me that it does help at times but when the fish are active scents are less important.

If ya a bug man you catch a bunch of bugs put them in the blender and inject them with the bait pump.:D :D

I believe the scents and nibblets may be helpful if the bite is tough.
Or just makes a person think that and the yleave the bait in the water longer.

if nothing else it makes you think your at fazzoil's or some one is bakeing garlic bread:D no really it does work, anything to make the fish hold onto the bait just a little longer for the hook set(and some of us old geezer's need all the time we can get):p :p
