Default DIY Capps n Coleman rigs

How long do yall make your rigs? Do you make different ones depending on depth you're fishing? If I'm fishing 10ft or less, I use a 1ft leader for top hook, then 18 inches to weight, and another 1ft from weight to jig or hook. If I'm fishing 15ft+, I still use 1ft lengths to hook but lengthen distance from top hook to weight to 28". I do use 3 way swivels.

Have you ever tried not using the 3 way swivel, by just doubling the main line with a double over hand knot, and then run the line thru the hook eye and back thru the loop? Don't know if that made since? What purpose is the 3 way? Seems unnecessary to me....lots of spider riggers do it like this, me too..

3/4-1oz rigs I make a 30-31" leaded from 3 way to the bottom hook with the egg sinker 9-10" above the bottom hook. I then use the pre-tied snelled #4 hooks you get from Walmart for the other line. The stiffer mono makes the hook stick out better and not get tangled up. Makes tying them up quicker too

I've been using Vicious 8# fluorocarbon to get the top hook to stand out better and keep from tangling. I tried using the snelled pre-made hooks but don't like the hooks they use. Only light wire hooks for me. And I use fluorocarbon for my leaders. Super clear water on my lake. Some fluorocarbon lines are a lil stiffer than others and helps keep the line up.

Not sure what you guts mean with doubling the line and such. Need a pic if possible. I'd like to get rid of the 3-way swivel if possible.

Just a basic loop knot at the top really. Once I started using the Arkie rigs I quit tying my own, still have to make drops and I do them with a quick snap on the end.

Wish I could use something like an Arkie rig but water is to clear for that. I would never catch a fish with those.

I make my own rigs using drooper loops. I use a peg board to make consistent rigs. Peg board made of nails. I usually make my loops 4-6 inches.. Making ur own rigs is a good use of" less than enough" line left on a spool. I just drilled holes in my workbench. Thats my pegboard. This way I don't misplace it. There are all sorts of "how tos" on you tube for peg boards and dropper loops.

I like single poling post spawn with the ky rigs. Get a lot of doubles, sometimes triples. I sometimes use a sauger jig (1/2 oz) on the bottom instead of a 1/2 oz bell weight. Depends on the weather.

    PS

The drooper loops are about 14-16 inches apart and I add swivel clips to both ends. Options unlimited.

I tie knots also, the swivel is just something else to cause drag in the water. Who wants to tie three knots when you can use one anyhow?
