In my experience with cattails in ponds it definately a huge help. I say that because cattails tend to attract alot of mosqitos and those dropping in the water attract those crappie.
I am starting a crappie population in my pond. During the warm months, there are a lot of cattails along the bank. Would these be good spots to catch crappie?

I forgot to say watch very closely on how many crappie you put into a pond becasue they do tend to over populate in a pond.
The bream can get away from you too. Dad has a pond in it with cattails. It produces millions of bream every year. If I lived closer to him, we would have rotnoned it by now and started over.Originally Posted by Ragfly Jig Man

I've heard about that happeneing. However, I plan to keep all the crappie we catch and if they get to be a problem, I will stock a couple of Hybrid Striped Bass to control the smaller crappie. I've heard the HSB are good at controlling an overpopulated pond and not controlling it themselves.Originally Posted by Ragfly Jig Man
Drpepper ,I love to find those old ponds overpopulated with Bream. We use those for Catfish bait on our Noodles every summer.
