I've been paying $14.99 per 50 of the painted 1/8 with #1 red Matsou sickle hooks and for 1/16 with #2 red Matsou hooks. The 1/16 must have been a special run. That was from Waypoint Outfitters but they were out of them last time I checked. Haven't had to clean paint out of a single eye.For painted heads with painted eyes and big hooks I thought their price was more than fair.

If you're talking plain jig heads unpainted check with grousefly or bugman - I'd say bobogreybeard but haven't talked to him in a while and heard he'd been having some back problems.

I get my unpainted weedless 1/32 & 1/16oz jigheads w/#2 Aberdeen hook from Grousefly @ $25/100 ... so I'd think a unpainted regular jighead would be less than that. :dono

Send him a PM and ask.

I did a little research and figuring, 1/16 painted with # 1 or #2 sickle hooks had to get close to 18.00 a hundred to make it worth while to do. Up to 23.00 powder painted and eyes cleaned properly and with out eyes painted would be pretty fair.

Look through the member sponsor classifieds. Many sell them ang way you want. Litewirehookers are real popular in these parts.

Some good sources already spoken of, and the prices are from really cheap to what I consider fair. I pour, paint and tie my own and can say that most folks who have never done the work don't appreciate just how much time and handling it takes to makes a GOOD jighead. I can pump em out, untrimmed and unpainted, but when they are received you would be very disappointed. Not trying to tell you what is fair or anything like that. The $50 is over the top IMHO. If you use a bunch you might look into doing your own. The gear isn't all that much and with a couple of friends can pay for itself pretty quick. I scrounge lead from time to time and don't really try cause I already have enough, so it's there if you keep your eyes and ears open. The taxes and paperwork and competition of trying to sell for profit was more than I felt like fooling with so I now just do for myself and a few friends when they need. Hope you find what you're looking for......Skeet

I buy untrimmed and unpainted 1/8 oz. Don't mind trimming lead if a good jog done molding . I use large tubes so lead don't show . i trim to not damage tubes on inserting them in tube .

Bobo Greybeard, here on the forum, does really good work at a reasonable price.

The last time I checked about 5 years ago I could get aberdeen hooks for $4.85 per 100, $4.50 per 100 per 1,000, 5,000 for $4.25 per 100..
At a fish/boat show I found a vendor that had jigheads for $6 per 100. I bought a bucket full at $5.50 per 100.

Do you guys paint them once you get them or just use jig heads unpainted. I'm undecided if the color of the head really matters all that much.

I'm the same way. I buy them unpainted and use them that way ... after all, "grey" or "silver" (depending on the age of your jighead) is a color !! :biggrin

I started using Weedless and regular Tungsten jig heads...they cost more but I feel they are worth the extra price. They are way smaller, and I "feel" them even better.

Agreed - unpainted - preferred. If I want a small bit of flash, I file off a bit of lead on either side in the form of a shiny dot. Could help get their attention but not really necessary most of the time.
