Which tape for a Tennessee reel seat?

I have an older South Bend 7-1/2’ light action spinning rod with a foam Tennessee reel seat with sliding aluminum rings. I like the rod but the rings are uncomfortable on my hand. I am thinking of taping the reel, rings and all, but need a suggestion on what type of tape I can use that will withstand getting wet and not destroy the grip if I ever have to remove the reel. Any ideas?

Get the Scotch brand tape from an electrical supply company. Much better tape than the box store crap.

I used to have a cork-handled Bill Westmorland 5 foot spinning rod with the slide rings. Mice in my garage ate the cork handle and I ended up tossing it. Wished 1000X over I still had it.

I go to Walmart and get tape for a ball bat. it is thicker and will not brake down when it gets wet and will last a while. it is also easy to take off when you want to change the reel.

Get the one Mrdux said, when installing it pull pretty tight to get it to stretch a little. Once wrapped that good tape will try to go back to original size making it get tighter. Water proof and if you cut the end and place it all back on itself it will never come off.

We use electrical tape on our ice rods that have that handle.

Scotch 33+ it will not get messy when it gets hot outdoors.

I have all my brother's rod building equipment and this crossed my mind. I got a suggestion by PM to try the Tennis Racket Wrap and I think I will try that first.
