Default Swivels When do you use them?

When do you use swivels? I know they are convenient and all but also can inhibit action on some lures and jigs.

Do you use them on all the crappie type jigs? lead head with tubes, twister tails, feathers, etc?

Are there any certain type of jigs you don't use them on?

How about something like an original Floating Rapala?

Or a Pilkies and other small spoons?

    Thanks

I've used quick change snaps so I don't have to retie every time I want to change a jig. I've never used swivels for crappie fishing though.

About the only time I'd use a "swivel" would be if I was casting or trolling a in-line spinner (like a "Rooster Tail" ).

When I'm Spider Rigging or "pushing" jigs ... I use a duo-lock snap on the end of my main line, to attach a pre-tied leader line w/jig onto it, just for quick change convenience.

I never really had much luck with using swivels to reduce line twist, even the high dollar ball bearing ones, when I used them Bass fishing. So, when I switched over to mainly Crappie fishing, I just never bothered to use them. I don't care for a whole lot of "hardware" on the line, if I can avoid it, just because it's potentially another weak link in the chain and something else that can snag or tangle.

But, that's just me ... as I do know others that use them, and swear by them, and catch fish right on. I just don't view them as a "necessity" in the way I fish, and what I fish with.

If you are talking snap swivels, never. I hate any additional hardware on my lines. Now barrel swivels I use to pre tie rigs for spiderrigging. Amazes me when guys are talking about line shy fish and needing flourocarbon and then tie on a big nasty bulky snap swivel. See it a lot on the saltwater forums. Dont take but a few seconds to tie on a new bait.

snap swivels NEVER - but I do use a duo-lock snap when fishing jigs.

I never leave home without them...since I use 20lb braid for everything, I also use a 20lb (size 12) hyper snap and swivel on everything. IMHO, it gives lures added action.
The added quick change ability is just a bonus.

I never use snap swivels. But do use a barrel swivel about 18'' above large tube jigs when verticle fishing to help with line twist. Because sometimes if line twists it causes line to wrap around my rod tip .
