    Default Question about skinning crapppie?

Has or does anyone skin their crappie? I saw a you tube video of a guy skinning them. I tried it and it works. I need more practice to perfect it. I normally filet them because scaling take too long and makes a mess. I am excited it has been years since I ate a crispy tail. I have scaled my last fish. All you do is make a shallow cut along both sides of the dorsal fin. Take a pair of skinning pliers starting just above the eyes and peel the skin back. On a few I can't get a good grip. I think I am doing something wrong with my cut at the head. It could also be that the fish were iced over night. Next time I will try it on live fish. Any help with how to perfect this would be appreciated.

I have never saw that. Though, I love boneless filets. I don't scale anything but bream.

I've seen a tool advertised on some of the crappie shows that strips the skin off. Looks easy to use.

I had a friend years ago that did his blue gills that way , He'd cut the heads off from the top down to the belly but not through the belly. Then pull guts and all out with the head. Then he would skin them with the skinning pliers. A lot of work in my opinion I'll keep filleting them

Seen this done to yellow perch up here in the north but never a crappie. I may try this some day.

I've seen them also. Should be awfully easy to use from what they cost.

If I am not fileting, I scale and leave the skin on. I like the way it tastes.
