Default I have a question about Fish Worms; no really, fish worms.

Can someone please tell me what I'm looking at here and if I should be concerned? I noticed these in a couple of the crappie I cleaned last night. A side from the obvious grossness of thinking I could have fried and eaten one of these things, should I be concerned? They were only noticible as little dark spots in/on my felets until I disected one of the spots and found the tightly wound worm. Thanks in advance. I'm gonna go barf now.

what lake did they come from? You may want to send them to dnr so they can be aware of the problem and they may can tell you if you need to be wormed

Might be a roundworm parasite called Nemps. They show up on polluted or overpoulated waters sometimes. I saw something like it come from a small pond that was overstocked.

May not be much to worry about afterall. The lake I fish does have an extensive wading bird population. I love watching them, but they can keep their worms.

Up north I have gotten used to checking all my fillets for parasites . Some species are more suceptable that others and the water temp that they live in . Perch and whitefish are the worst up here. I have seen them in walleye but don't recall seeing them in crappie.
I suspect the dnr will tell you that all fish and animals are suceptable to parasites.

Cane Pole, I couldn't find any research on "Nemps" but it is interesting that you mention overpopulated waters. I'm sure the 90 acre lake I fish is over populated, but I'm doing my part to correct that situation as best I can.

Me neither. Try Nematode worm. I think this is it.
