I totally agree!!!
Why do so many people go out and keep trophy fish just to lay a knife to them. I think it's being selfish. All your doing is taking someone else's dream. I hear it all the time, my freezer is packed full. Me and my partner only keep what we can eat and if we're not going to mount it, that fish goes back. One time we were at a tournament and a guy caught a 2 # and asked him what he was going to do with it, of coarse he said eat it. I asked him if I gave him four of our fish would he trade me that one so I could let it go and he did. I seen professional fisherman at Lake Washington last year with coolers full of 2 to 3 pound crappie. I know there a very tasty fish but the 10 inchers taste the same as the 15 inchers.
I totally agree!!!

I throw back anything 1 1/2 pounds or bigger, haven't missed any meals yet.

Agreed! I actually prefer about a 11" crappie for eating.

One could just as easily wonder why some people keep smaller fish instead of letting them go so they can become big fish.

Why are fishermen and hunters so quick to criticize their own for acts that are 100% totally legal? I will call out a person who is wasteful, unlawful, or abuses the resource but the OP is questioning an act that is a legal, personal decision. If you want to release the fish, keep the fish for the table or to put on the wall, each to their own.
The world is full of folks who would love to take away our rights to hunt and fish. Having us argue legalities on a public forum just gives them more ammo to use against us.

First of all...because is it "Legal" doesn't mean it is right.
There are plenty of things that are legal, that aren't good for us, the environment, etc.,....or they are proven later not to be right.
We also have to understand that there are REGIONAL differences...Fish grow faster in the South, some fish are viewed differently in different areas, etc., etc., etc.
I view it as a "Regional Common Sense" issue....and yes, I understand that "Common Sense" is becoming more and more rare in our Society!lol
