    Default What Lakes Thaw First

So I'm getting antsy. Just curious as warmer temps start arriving, which lakes thaw first? Bigger ones? Smaller ones?

Does it matter about surface area or depth? Or is this a trick question and they all thaw at the same rate. Just trying to figure out which lake to go to first.

    Thanks.

A lot of our lakes have 7 to 10 inches yet. The ones that freeze up last are usually the first to open up. They freeze last because they usually have a creek running through and the current keeps them open. The rain/snow melt gets the creeks high and takes the ice away

I would love to. We have had a fairly mild winter up her but I'm still tired of it.

Our's all open at the same time....shallow or deep....In SW Ohio they will be open this weekend....they are thawing now, but it's supposed to be in the mid to upper 50's on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday! At 40 degrees the Walleye will start gorging to get ready for the spawn!

Move south seems like the logical answer, however my wife and family don't think so! Haha

Lakes that are shallow, or those with dark water. they will absorb the sun rays better and faster. Conversely, they will also freeze faster in the winter. Fish On!
