Exclamation Come on GUYS, Douglas Lake?

Surely there are some fellas out here that fish Douglas lake, or live around the Dandridge or Baneberry areas that have some info on accommodations?
It looks like my brother and I will be taking my dad (76 years young) to Douglas Lake in early April for some Crappie fishing. I have 3 questions.
    1) Where can we stay, someplace nice, on the water with a boat dock close by, cabin, resort, whatever. Would like a nice cabin, not too expensive, anyone have any ideas here?
    2) When does the Corp of Engineers start letting the lake fill up or will the lake still be low the first 2 weeks of April 1-16?
    3) Any good patterns or colors for Douglas, crappie jigs, minnows, etc.?
    Thanks,
    Dave

If Douglas is like a TVA lake good luck on guessing when they will bring the water up it is kind of like waiting for the cable guy. It will be sometime between April and June pun intended. Just get on the next and call some of the places you find around the lake. If you had the time a fishing show would be great that is how we found the place we stay at in Canada. Sorry for not being much more help.
If in doubt, cross their eyes!!

    Exclamation Hey BassKy .....

keep your eyes on this link for fishing reports from Douglas:

    http://www.state.tn.us/twra/eastfish.html

Keep checking on this site to keep track of water levels:

    http://www.tva.gov/river/lakeinfo/

    and this one:

    http://lakeinfo.tva.gov/lake_phone.htm

My limited knowledge of Douglas says it will depend on the water temps, more than the water levels, as to when the Crappie will make their Spring Spawn run. I believe there is little to no original cover left in this lake ... so planted cover is what you'd be looking for.
Under optimal conditions, it's been related to me that a minnow 6-18" under a float - fished around the rocky banks - is the "normal" proceedure. But, if you're like me ... and never manage to get to a lake during "optimal" conditions ... you may do yourself a big favor by stopping at some of the local tackle shops and chatting with the locals.
You should also re-post your questions about this lake ... every now and again over the next couple of months. New members come on board daily ... and one of them may just be the person you're looking for. And, if Douglas doesn't seem to be in good enough condition, at the time of your trip, there's always Watts Bar. The driving time is virtually the same (5hr) ... and there's lots of folks on the board that can give you good info on it. ...luck2ya ...cp

Just a thank you crappiepappy. I have fished Watts Bar since I was a teenager, and the crappie fishing just isn't what it used to be. If fact my mom and dad retired to the Spring City area on the Piney River area. Dad got sick, had to move back up to Cincinnati with the rest of the family. Good lake, but have found the crappie hard to come by, too sporatic. Mom did catch a big one out of Eden Resort a couple of years ago, 18.25" 3.25 lbs. The fish would have weighed 4 lbs but had already dropped her eggs. There are some good crappie in the lake that is for sure. Douglas we are hoping will be good to us. We will be down there for a week to get a pattern going. Thanks for the websites to check on things.
