I had the boat out breaking ice on Hillsdale Thursday 1/24. I heard some folks were out on the ice above the bridge on the Little Bull. I broke ice with the boat upto about a 1/4 mile below that bridge and fished there. Don't think the ice was thick enough for me to be out on it yet. I want to see at least 5 inches of good ice and several other folks out there showing me the way before I'll get out there --being the brave soul I am.

I'm hoping to get the ice auger out in a few days after this cold front gets settled in here.

I have a question about how well the current white and rotten looking ice on the lake will refreeze to be considered good ice. Hopefully the good clear ice will form beneath the rotten looking ice making it safe ice.

The ice behind the Dams at Toronto and Fall River are around 6 inches. Melvern was open at Eisenhower park with a few boats on the East end.

Buddy and I went yesterday to a couple places and only caught 9 keepers through the ice, not alot of fish caught but had a good time. It had been 3 years since I got to icefish and I think it is going to be here awhile.

Was there anyone fishing on that 6 inches of ice?

old rule of thumb for ice is 2" is safe for one person walking, 4" one person fishing, 8 to 12" small truck can drive on it if you have the nerves :D
