Thanks for your report Vic. Glad you got out on the lake.
Dragged the boat out for a few hours Saturday. Water temp about 37°, lake level is at winter pool (1.5' low). They are currently releasing 200 cfs, which is very high compared to 8 cfs normal release, so there is probably a bit of current. I don't think they are still lowering the lake, just matching the inflow. I checked a ton of brushpiles with nothing going on, until I went up close to Sailboat cove and spotted some shad on the df. Dragged a couple of jigs through them until I finally caught a few dinks. I guess if you can find shad, you might be able to hook up some crappies. I didn't check around bridges, nor did I see anyone fishing them. All in main lake basin and nothing beyond bridges.
Sure was nice to get out in the boat and on the water, tho

Thanks Vic, at least you got out, still have to finish a few projects on mine before I can get out.
Glad you got out for a while. I fished the docks at camp branch over the weekend. Went before daylight and caught lot of dinks with 4 keepers Saturday and 2 keepers Sunday. They shut off at early dawn both days. It's crazy how big a 9 1/2" crappie looks after catching lots of dinks. Caught all on miniature tube jigs, 3/4" long, with 64oz jig heads. Couldn't snag a fish on 2" jigs. Still fun though.
Maybe I should downsize my jig....I'm still using a 2 1/2" slab buster to catch a 7" fish!
I went last Thursday and had 3 dozen. 10 keepers between dad and i. Went Saturday and had just one keeper. Havent fished smithville lake since i was about 15 and im 30, so will take a while to find the decent spots
