It can be repaired, cut wires at different places to offset repair spots. Solder and heat shrink each spot. Before you start slip on a piece of heat shrink large enough to cover entire repair. Make sure to solder the tin foil looking shield also. Once you have it done coat each repair with liquid elec tape. Install large heat shrink coat also then wrap with electrical tape. Also you could contact Cane Pole and maybe get him to send you a link to his repair guide he posted a couple of years ago. I have one on my old hand control I repaired about 4 times and it still works.

There is this option if you're not comfortable splicing wires ...

The primary things to consider is how close the problems is to the transducer or the connector and is it going to be under water.......If it is too close to the transducer or connector you won't be able to fix it right......If it can get wet at the break, special things need to be done to seal it. If water gets in the splice it could cause a short and damage the unit.
The splice can be done, but it is difficult to do correctly......and if you don't have the skills to do it, it isn't worth risking damage to your head unit.
