    Default Wind sock

I've got an 18 1/2' Ranger. Just bought a 30" wind sock. The ones that uses a wind sock,is this one I bought big enough and is one enough or do I need two. Next question how do I used one,do I put it out behind the motor or off the side. Never have used one and I am planning a trip to Lake Talquin .

I believe you went too small. However, if you get a second one, you could successfully slow your drift with one on the bow and one on the stern. Whenever choosing a wind sock, always go with the next size up (or two) from the suggested specifications for that sock. With a single sock, I prefer a bow mount. But that would depend, of course, on where your rods are mounted and what you are trying to achieve.

If your spider rigging put them off the stern. Get 2 60" or larger. With small socks on that big a boat your going to be disappointed. If just slight breeze one big one usually will work butt when the wind gets up you will want 2. Right now cabelas has their good ones on sale.

First link is good sock up to 56" second is their pro series 66" and you could get the monster 77" but it would have to be back ordered.

I run one 66 on 17 ft boat and have to 42" I use at times.

I hope ya'll mean a drift sock because a wind sock goes on the end of a runway so small planes know witch way the ground wind is blowing. Can't see a plane landing on a Ranger, but maybe some of these houseboats on Cumberland

I have a SeaArk 240 and run at least one 66 and sometimes 2. I don't think you have enough to slow you down like you want to. I run mine off the back behind the motor. Hope this helps.
