6 pound hi-viz yellow in any brand but new Mr. Crappie. That new stuff is garbage. I use ultralight spinning reels and a line that is not very limp really causes problems. Used Viscious and Suffix with good results recently.

You might want to consider a braid w/fluorocarbon leader. I use Fireline Crystal in 2# test for my main line, with about a 5' fluoro leaders in 4# test. Connecting the two with the Alberto knot. Has worked really well - for me - when either trolling or casting. Sets the hook well and the fluoro adds a shock absorption factor, along with abrasion resistance. When I started doing this, some folks told me I'd tear the hooks out of the crappie's thin mouths a lot. After 3 seasons I can now say that this has proven not to be the case.

6 pound mono. You need a line with some stretch and a rod with good action. This keeps from pulling paper mouths loosing when at high speeds. I also use a different color rods to distinguish tangled lines easier. Bass pro Excel is a very good affordable option. Mr. crappie and Crappie Maxx are good too. The Berkley XL is good but more expensive when lining multiple rods a few times a year as I do. There are also times you my want to go lighter in test to get deeper or for very clear water. I also have used 8-10 in spring to keep baits shallower.
