Default Filleting - getting through the ribs

I'm looking for a new fillet knife. I've been using the standard 7 inch rapala and that works well for everything but getting through the ribs. I see videos on youtube of people going through ribs like butter. What type of knife do I need? I was thinking about a breaking knife to get through ribs and use my skinny rapala for the rest of the cutting.

I know a lot of people like the electrics but I see those get mixed reviews.

    Thanks!

For the American Angler is the 8 inch freshwater blade sufficient? Amazon has one that comes with 5 blades not sure if I need those?

I don't cut the bones with a regular knife. Look on you tube and you will see how but the American angler is the best way to go.

i never cut thru rib bones on any fish myself so I am not the one to ask ....of course I don't fillet many fish so I have no need to whack and stack ....

If you don't want to spend the money on a elec. fillet knife ... then I would learn how to fillet a fish without cutting through the ribs. It can be done, and is done by those that prefer using the standard fillet knives. Keeping those knives razor sharp is key in making the job "easier and quicker", which are two reasons why many have switched to elec. knives.

YouTube is full of "how to" videos, showing ways to filet a fish with a standard fillet knife by cutting "around" the rib cage.

The "shark" blades are what I use. Usually have to buy them separately
