Battery Boxes

Does anyone use these? Pros and cons.

Yes................

Pros................ keeps the battery acid that ALWAYS seem to get out off the carpet. I screw them down to the boat (stainless steel screws) and they keep the battery from flopping around.

Cons.............. ummmm can't think of anything at the moment.

Pro - Keeps the sun and elements off the battery. Keeps your battery securely in place. If I'm not mistaken I think it might be manadtory for it to be secured? Maybe I'm thinking about the gas tank?

Con - Can't see the battery terminals to easily spot corrossion. Have to unstrap the cover to access terminals if you have to. (Out of sight out of mind theory)

Some states do require you to have the battery enclosed in some manner. AR doesn't have this law though. I have my cranking battery in a box, simply for the security of having the gas tank sitting pretty close to it (in an enclosed space).

It makes carrying the battery easier, too, I think.

I use battery trays and straps to hold them down and the rubber boots that cover the terminals to protect them accidental arcing and corroding. this allows easy access to check water level and battery connections.

Batteries have to be covered to get a Coast Guard inspection sticket. Been there, done that!
