I'm thinking like you if you're not moving there's no need for the extra weight. But I'm no expert on spider riging.
does anybody spider rig over brush tops? I know typically in mississippi when spider rigging most ppl are trolling with double minnow rigs....Do any of yall ever just put out 6-8 rods and let them "sit" over the brush top?
If so...would you recommend down sizing to smaller weights since Im not trolling? or do you feel that it matters...I typically have done it with BnM double minnow rigs on 3/8 or 1/2 oz weights.....i have been contemplating switching to maybe single jigs with a spit shot above to give me a little more weight or even double minnow rigs with split shot....

I hear some talk about using light wire hooks and sitting on brush with spider rigs .

I spider rig into the wind from waypoint to waypoint ...
As I'm approaching the waypoint ...I slow down even more until the front rod touches the brush ...
Then I let the wind drift me backwards away from the brush where I can re-adjust my bait depths to above the brush level ...
Then I ease back over the brush and immediately release the TM pedal and let the wind drift me backwards over the brush again ...
I may repeat this zigzag several times over the brush if the fish continue to hit ...
When I feel there is no more active fish ...I start maneuvering toward the next waypoint ...
As soon as I'm clear of the previous brush pile ...I may re-adjust my baits lower or I may leave them at the same depth ...
