    Default Food saver

Looking to purchase one of these soon. I see a wide variety of models and pricing. One on tv sells for $450.00 and the wife saw one at WalleyWorld for $120.00. Anyone have any experience or suggestions? I just want to get the best deal for my $$$$. Thanks in advance

I tend to think you get what you pay for if you shop around carefully.

Word of caution from a taxidermist: Be extremely careful vacuum sealing any fish you want to mount. The textured surface of the inside of most vacuum bags will leave the texture imprint in the soft tissue areas of a fish, especially the head. That can create lots more work for the taxidermist and more $$ for the client. Learned the hard way.

You have to be cautious when sealing any item with liquid or blood in it. The seal will not work if the surface is wet. Learned that the hard way also.

Feesh, I have the Food Saver Bronze. Found it on Amazon way cheaper than anywhere else. Had it about a year and really satisfied with it.

When using a food saver, I "towel" dry the fillets before sealing. Too much water causes bad seals. Remember to wash the towels immediately after use; they will smell like rotten fish if left for the next day.

I towel dry the fish then lay on wax paper and cookie sheet , put in freezer to partial freeze. This will insure a good vacuum will be had.

I have one of the name brand sealers, but just the basic model. Don't need anything fancy, just reliable.

Thanks for the good advice guys. I ended up buying a basic model from Walmart today for around $80.
