maybe you lucked out. Change the impeller and you should be ok. do you see any discoloration? Motors can run hot and be ok IF it wasn't too long.
was running my boat wide open and after about 1/2 mile noticed it wasn't "peeing"....throtted down and smoke every where.....shut it down and fished....5 hours later trolled to landing and staryed motor for just a second to drive it on the trailor......had plenty olf power and started right up.....
other than the impeller, do y'all think i did MAJOR damage?????
nothing looks burned under the cowl

I agree and this has happened to me as well.Originally Posted by FalconSmitty

Was it cold? mine has froze up a few times and it takes a couple of minutes to thaw out and start "peeing".

As long as it was running strong when you shut it down, I doubt there was any damage done. That happened to me one time running down the lake. After I shut the motor down I found a plastic garbage bag around the lower unit. It must have not been there for very long. I am a stickler when it comes to watching the tell-tale.
You could run a quick compression test on the motor to see what kind of compression it has. It sounds to me though, you caught it in time.
