    Default Report; Cold morning!

With only a week left of the season for this body of water, Walt & I headed up to the Quabbin to see if we could catch some crappie. We launched at 8:15 am. Wind was blowing out the NE at about 15 mph. Air temp was a brisk 44 degrees, with the water topping out at 55 degrees, a few degrees less than our last trip. It was pretty darn cold, as you will see from the photos! The "end" is near!

We drifted with 1/16 & 1/8 oz. ball heads dressed with a variety of plastics; straight tails, paddle tails and horseheads, in a variety of color combinations. We started out fine, chocking up about 15 in less than an hour. However, things went downhill after that. We actually skunked out for the rest of the morning! We hit just about every depth level, from 10' to 22'. Just could not find hide nor hair of any decent schools of fish/bait. Just after noon we hit on some decent schools and started to really clock 'em. Ended up with 50 fish (CRP); the majority being crappie, along with 2 gills and one small largemouth bass.

Here are some of our better catches of the morning, starting with a shot of the turning leaves:

Once the season closes we'll be taking the small tin boat out on some local bodies of water until they ice up. This usually occurs around Thanksgiving, although, some years we've been "lucky" and had open water until Christmas! You can always hope.

We envy you fine folks down south aways, having open water year 'round. Maybe it's better if we don't! That guarantees staying married. LOL!

I can see why my relatives always made a trip to Maine in the fall. The colors are beautiful.

Sounds like something to add to the bucket list.
