Default Limits of a different kind

As I said in an earlier post a week or so back, I would be attending the opener of Dove season today. It's now in the history books and it was a fine day indeed. Legal time was noon but we ate about 1pm and began shooting at 2. The food comes from our local premier BBQ house and they didn't disappoint this year either. This was my 4th year joining this group and the great time and friendly folks just give me reason to aggravate my boss into giving me the day off. My last day at work was Friday and tomorrow I load the truck, with a lot of help, to move south so no boss to pester this year. The usual fun of flurries of birds would come through and trying to remember where this one went down while that one just flew into range. Hollering back and forth when birds came into the field and helping each other find downed birds. Great fun. Roughly 40 of us shared the field comfortably and everyone got their share of birds if they could do their part. I took my limit of 15 and was given some that another group didn't have time to dress and freeze, so I was happy to be sure they didn't go to waste. The young folks that showed were great to watch as a new generation prepares to take their place among us. I'll miss these shoots in early September when I move as I never found any to compare to those i have attended here in Tennessee. I guess football isn't all the Volunteers do well. Thanks for reading this and sharing what has been a very good day for me. My next posts will be coming from way further south.......Skeet.

Lots of good memories from dove hunts locally as a kid and from SE Missouri with my friends there. Lost a good friend a few years ago who would always pick a conservation group to donate to so he could get a bunch of us together to have a great meal and shoot. Delta Waterfowl, Friends of NRA, etc got some nice donations from those hunts.

    Best wishes on your move.
