Before I got my Terrova....I pulled with a 115 Yamaha four stroke with a Troll A Matic trolling plate on it....Worked fine but I like the Terrova better as I can set a course with it.
Is there an advatage in using an electric motor over your big motor for pulling? Wonder if the noise difference matters to the fish at normal trolling depths? Working through some newbie theories and ideas here, appreciate any thoughts......

I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

I use a 60 4s to pull or push, but steer with the TM for the most part.

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
My 150 2 stroke isn't good to run that slow for long periods so I use my MK autopilot.

I use both. Downwind TM only, into wind I crank the big motor to conserve batteries.

I have an evinrude etech 30 hp with a trolling rpm adjustment made for trolling....i use it into the wind and when im going down wind I use just my trolling motor....i feel like i catch more with only trolling motor but im just a beginner
I troll with my ulterra until batteries die, then I toss out a drift sock and troll with my 4-stroke 115 Merc. I don't know if its true or not but I had a guy tell me that trolling that slow trolling with a big 2-stroke will lead to fouled plugs. I could see that being true.
I have a '10 four stroke 25hp Mercury tiller on my 1754 Grizzly, so it isn't a problem to use it for trolling. My 55# Minn Kota has five speed settings, top is about 2mph depending on wind. Just seems like I don't do nearly as well with the outboard running, but like I said in OP- working my way through the newbie learning curve.....
Thank you to all that have chimed in, I appreciate it.
If pulling cranks outboard is ok. I hate trying to pulling jigs with an outboard. Trolling motor gives you more control.
