Default fly reel at the flea market

Picked up a nice Pflueger Medalist 1494 at the flea market today, it's got scuffs on it but will make a nice fishing reel

That is the Zebco 33 of fly reels. I got one and like it as much as my Orvis reels. Solid as a rock.

Good find Doug. If the line has any roughness, pitch it and clean and oil the shaft and go fishing. Good solid reel that will serve you for many years.

Got a 1494 1/2 a few years ago and always look for them. Saw the write up on the new ones an they are pretty pricey!!!

I have a couple of those stashed away, good solid reels and even make good backups to modern reels! Good score!

I did a double take when I saw this post as I had just seen it on another forum. I wonder how many other crappie fishermen are also flyrodders.
btw: When I got into fly fishing while stationed in New England and my first reel was a disk drag and I have stayed with that type. When my brother passed I got his fishing gear and he had a few "clickers". I put them on rods that I use to teach others how to ff as I have grown used to the silent reels.

When I seen this post I thought that reel looked familiar. I checked in the box I keep extra reels in and I have one that looks just like it. It looks identical except it says Kmart on it and it's made in Japan.

A great find foe sure . I have never understood how/why fly reels can cost like they do . I am sure there are those that will remember the record breaking hate thread (lol) when I mentioned using auto -reels to fly fish . Actually had one to say that bream fishing was a lower level of fly fishing . Fish on friend ! And to all the haters out there take this .lolName: Video 82 0 00 00-01.jpg
