    Default Planer Board Trolling Rods

For those of you trolling planer boards what rod are you using? I've pulled Crappie Shark boards for many years with great results but it's time to do something about this mismatched bunch of rods. Weather permitting, I'm pulling up to 8 boards with spinning equipment but could easily switch to conventional. Trolling double jigs but would also be interested in what you plug guys are using.

    Thanks,

    Anthony

I'm using the Pennacle rods from Grizzly Jig. $60 for 4. They are the same rods Chris (tenncrappie) is using in his guide boat.

I've had the same four Ugly Stik 7' CAL1100 medium action trigger rods for 7-8 and they're my go-to planer board rods. Bought them after fishing with a walleye guide in MN on his recommendation. They have enough backbone if you snag a flathead and are short enough to net a fish easily.

    Default Planer Board Trolling Rods

I ordered Daiwa downrigger rods from Wally World for about $25 each.
Plenty of back bone to handle the pull of a planer board. Any medium heavy bass rod will work.

I use gander mountain angler rods specifically for planner boards. 7.5 and 8.5 footers. Mine have triggers and shorter buttsto get the rod out of the holder. I cut thebutts down on the 8.5 rods to match.

We use Okuma rods for our salmon boat

7 foot MH Tourney bass rods from BPS with a trigger. Tried the mediums but kept snapping the tips. Six years on the MH's and never broken one.
