Could be cause the hook is too small and instead of hooking in roof of mouth your just catching the lip
We bought some new 1/16 Road runners and put curly tail jigs on them-spider rigging. I probably lost 1/2 of the fish I hooked. Any thoughts??

I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Bend the hook out just a lil but. Makes it "dig" more and gets more hook ups in the roof of the mouth.
Sometimes they bite the bait instead of sucking it in. If they are doing that, go to straight minnows. I run into it a couple of times a year. They are not getting far enough up on the hook.
Tell'em I'll be there.
We were thinking the hooks might be less than ideal so we eventually opened the gap some. Probably ought to look for RR's with a bigger. Thanks
Great advise on going to strait minnow...........
I love RR's...hate the too small hooks.
I like them RRs with big hooks. Got a few with 1/0 hooks. They look awesome. Best chunkin' and scoutin' bait that exists. I like some Little Georges too, but they done priced themselves outa my tackle box.

Hey Cane Pole how heavy are the RRs with 1/0 hook?? Would like to find some with in no more than 1/8oz with 1/0 hook.
Crappiehabits and I were having the same problem and we agreed we needed larger hooks. I cant tell you where or exactly what we ordered as he did the purchasing. Also on the smaller ones the baby shad jigs were catching the blade and it wasn't spinning alot of the times. Since he ordered the new ones it's smooth sailing for casting or pulling/trollin. I'll tell him to comment on the post. We also offset the hook just a tad. Has improved us stayin hooked up quite a bit. As far as regular jig heads we use the sickle hooks and I'm a fan.
