My candle burns at both ends; it will not last the night. But ah my foes, and oh my friends - it gives a lovely light.Frank Cecil LIKED above post

Nice picture, Alex---thanks for sharing! It's been a while since I stalked them, but you've gotten me pumped up about interesting shots of sunrises & sunsets.
Sunrises and sunsets offer a unique challenge for photographers. How do you improve on something that's so near perfect? It's not too hard to start with some ho-hum scene and extract a more interesting image, but when you start with gorgeous sunrises and sunsets, the artistic challenge is daunting. While this is a sunset, the smooth color transition is what grabs my attention.

I feel the same way, and living on the west coast we get amazing sunsets near daily. What I started doing (and did in the photo above) is to start looking in other directions during sunset. This one is actually looking south and is catching the edge of the sunset. Another way might be to catch the last golden rays coming through trees, the long shadows of people or buildings, maybe just the golden glow cast on some beautiful scenery. Regular old west facing shots of the sun setting can get pretty boring, no matter how spectacular they appear, so looking elsewhere for what happens during the "golden hour" is a great way to capture it!
Thanks for the kind words guys!

Also, you don't need the latest and greatest gear with 50mp full frame sensor to capture images like this. If you notice my camera body is almost 12 years old (on its second shutter now) and I'm using what it arguably the worst mid zoom lens ever made. I keep the lens because I don't care if I drop it or it gets damaged. It has the dents to prove it. Only reason I even own it is because it was given to me, lol! My camera body is 10.2mp and aps-c sized sensor too. Only editing done to the image is just a tiny bit of contrast and brightening, the colors are true to life.
