Default Can't Go Fishing... So I Drew Some

I used to love to sketch and paint and do just about anything creative, but as I'm sure you know, workload and all of the worries of life kinda' crowd things like this out; until several months ago when I decided that I would try to pick it back up again in what I affectionately refer to as my pre-retirement years and for whatever time the Good Lord allows me after wearing myself out so thoroughly during my working years. Recently, I’ve been trying to get back into some drawing and painting, but it’s been about 20 years or more since I’ve done any sort of artwork whatsoever.

Best I can figure, drawing is not quite like riding a bicycle, because it seems to be taking right much time for me to get my hand back on it again. It still seems so hard to find the time to do this kind of stuff, but since I have been boatless for about two years now; I guess I have subconsciously replaced actual fishing by working on fishing related drawings an hour here and an hour there; and I’m actually finding that it’s still every bit as much fun and a great source of relaxation as I remembered it was in my younger years. I guess you could say I’m fishing vicariously through all of your articles and posts on CDC, as well as through this type of fishing related expressionism, but (I know) (as you know) it’s still nothing like getting out there and feeling the slime and the thump first hand for yourself.

This drawing was actually inspired by an article I did on CDC some time back entitled “Why Fish School.” This is how I envision crappies might go about so proficiently foraging for "straggler" baitfish (shad) in the open water that may tend to venture too far from the main school. This particular drawing took almost a month and a half to complete using sepia colored pencil and graphite pencils. I am a bit unhappy that I lost a good bit of the subtle detail and shading when I took the digital camera shot of the drawing and then uploaded it to computer.

I would appreciate it if you’d take a moment to let me know what you think of it.

    God Bless You All,
