Check the number of satellites the unit is tracking if this happens again. It sounds like you were tracking very few, leading to the low accuracy of the position fix.
I've had one of these for a couple of years now, and I've been thinking about sinking some habitat and marking it. Now i've noticed it being a little off before, but it never has been an issue. Today I put in at the boat ramp, drove about 1/2 mile with the unit on and position aquired, came to a stop, and marked a waypoint. Went and fished about 3 miles away for a few hours. Before I came back I turned the unit off and on again just to make sure it would find the waypoint after powering down. When I got to the waypoint marked on my screen, I was over 100yds away from where I actually marked it. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am at a loss, I dont really expect pinpoint accuracy, but that is crazy.

Make sure your unit has a "Clear View Of The Sky".
Make sure your WAAS is enabled.
May need to "Initialize" the GPS to make sure it is acquiring all available satellites.
