It is not the same. A quadrabeam sends out 4 beams. A Sidescan sends a beam off to the side. You need a different transducer for a sidescan if you already have a quadrabeam.
On humminbird fish finders is the quadrabeam option the same thing as the sidescan, or is it something different? If it is different, what does one do the other doesn't do? Bottomline do you want or need both or are they the same?

You have to have a sidescan unit to use the sidescan transducer.
If you are buying a sidescan unit you want the sidescan transducer. Some people are buying the quadrabeam to run as a second transducer for high speed runs and hooking that up through a A-B switch. Becuase most are placing the sidescan in a spot that is protected from hitting trees or other items. Like up under the steps in the transom or up in the jackplate. Problems is its use less when the boat is on plane because its then out of the water. To replace the sidescan transducer is 200 bucks. You dont really want to break that puppy.

I have 2 units that has the Side scan and the tribeams. There the TX400's.
I side scan is ok.
But move to Side imaging and it will open up a new world for you.
