That's pretty cool Cappy. Ann has a jacked up Wrangler with the big mud grip tires, huge bumpers, brush guard, etc. She likes it that way, and I like it she wants it that way. She has always done that. She has never wanted a "car" because she wants to feel safe. Now if I could get here to back, or pull, a trailer all would be good. She tried once to back one of my trailers a few years a go along our driveway to practice. Didn't work, oh well.

I have an '81 renagade. It's rusty and dingy and junky. Peggy named it tinkerbayl cause I am always either tinkering with it or bayling it out.

I have tried and tried to teach her go back a trailer up and it still evades her. She feels safe pulling the boat or our camper until she has to manouver in a tight camp ground or landing then I take over.

The best tip I ever received on how to back a trailer I still use today. Put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel, look over your shoulder at the trailer and as you back, move your hand it the direction you want the trailer to go.
I struggle, however, if I have to back a friends trailer and can't see the trailer because of the tailgate or 3rd row seat in an SUV. Some of my friends back only using their mirrors, but that takes getting use to.

Which hand and which shoulder or does it make a difference?? I'lll try it on her. We get by fine I back her in the boat down the ramp. But coming back I gotta back the trailer then drive the boat up ans she pulls us up it works bit teaching her to back would make her feel better. It frustrates her that she don't get it.

It does not matter which hand or shoulder. What ever she is comfortable with. I look over my right shoulder so I am looking back between the seats and down the middle of the trailer. That puts my left hand on the wheel. The reason this method works is you don't have to think about "if I move this way the trailer goes that way." Simply moving your hand to the left moves the trailer to the left, etc. Now that only works if you hand is on the bottom of the steering wheel.
My wife got to where she could back as good as I could. She launched me on day at Murrells Inlet, SC and had to cross the highway to a parking lot. She backed the trailer in between to other rigs in a kind of tight spot.
She was grinning when she came to the dock and told me some guys were sitting on the tailgate of a pickup and when she backed it in and got out, they all applauded. Made her day. She is not an outdoors person or fisherwoman either. We were just going out for a ride in the inlet.
