18' rods are definitely on the market today mainly for trolling. Try it for jigging and see if it works for ya.
I found a pole/reel that I bought a few years ago. It's a Bass Pro Shop crappie combo that is 18' long, a 3-piece rod. My gosh. It still had the sticker on it -- on sale for $50. It's kind of like a fly reel on it. I am not sure but seem to recall that I fished with it and it was too long. At that time, I was fishing an oxbow lake and a 14 foot pole was nice but we were always wishing for longer to get to the scattered sticks in the water.
I wonder if anyone has ever found that an 18' rod could work! It might tire you out holding that thing. It's fiberglass and seems light enough, but, hmmm.

I wouldn't want to hold an 18 all day. Especially, if it were fiberglass. They are ok for pushing, but just cumbersome and hard to store.
