Default Support spacing for boat rod storage racks?

Only have a 16' boat but was looking to install rod storage racks. Have 12 and 14 foot rods. Not sure what brand I will get but question is with my length rods will I need just 2 support posts?? And what would the distance between posts need to be?? Guessing on the 12' rods can't get to far apart and the 14' rods can't get to close together. Thanks

I've got a 17' and 3 supports about 4' apart. About 8' from front one to back one and I've carried 14' rods for about 300 miles without a problem

I carry 12'-18' poles on 2 supports spaced about 9' apart (on a 20' boat). Have not had any problems yet and I travel a good bit on and off the water. Many folks like the 3rd support but I do not see the need.

I ran two supports for awhile.....then got a third one.....keeps the poles from bouncing in the middle.....I like it a lot better that way. See E-Z Poleholders ad on the Sponsor Classified board. The ones he makes are really nice.
