Rod length/boat length

I'm getting started in spider rigging, is there a recommended rod length according to you boat length?
I have an 18' boat and putting a 16' rod on that seems a bit crazy.

What does everyone else think?

I would say it's a preference thing and if you have room to stow them easily and protect them then go for it.
I have a 16' jon and carry eight 12' rods all the time easily. Do you need 16' rods? can you drop to 14' and make it easier to stow them? Of course you can take them apart if they are two piece but I leave mine together all the time ready to fish.

The reason for the longer rods is to get further away from the boat as not to spook fish. It is harder to land the fish as you will have to use a longer handled dip net for good size fish. The longest I have used was 13' but I mostly use 10' as they are easier for me to land fish with. This is just a person's preference to how long of a rod to use all will work the hook catches the fish. Have seen some pictures where rods were longer than boat with rod tips hanging over back of boat while going down the road.

i settled in on 14 ft pst's and they have done well on and off the water on my 17.5 ft lowe...

I used 14's out of a 1542 ,no problems .

I use 12' rods out of a 16' boat and catch plenty.

No ... boat length has nothing to do with rod length IMHO.

I have a 16' boat & have been using 10' rods, but will start this year with 13 & 14 foot rods when spider rigging. And I've seen 17' boats use 14-20ft rods ... SR'ing & pushing/pulling cranks. Like Scrat says .... it's a matter of how far away from the boat you want your rod tips/baits.

Also ... depending on how your boat is laid out, or how sharp a point the bow comes to, as to how your rod holders have to be placed (in order for them to be within reach when you're seated) ... you may want/need the extra long rods, so as to be able to get your rod tips/baits as far away from the trolling motor & bow of the boat as you want/need.
