Casting jigs will take crappie and trout (and everything else.)
I loaded they yak and all my gear for some open water fishing in the morning. My conundrum is,this is a pretty good crappie lake, and a good trout lake.Im driving a fair distance to fish it,but struggling with what to take.
Im thinking I will spider rig for a while, then perhaps dropshot for trout if they are hitting.I may even long line with plugs just to be different. This is my first trip in the yak this year, once I settle down I can concentrate more on crappie.

Put a marabou Roadrunner on & you can cast it or troll it, and stand a reasonable chance at catching either/both species. Even casting or trolling a small minnow shaped crank (like a Rapala or Rebel minnow) would work, if they're still out in open water. Adding a small split-shot about a foot ahead of the crank will help for casting distance or getting it down deeper for trolling.
