Crappie After a tough fishing year in 2014 on the heels of several years of phenomenal fishing, look for Truman to start making a comeback in 2015. Thirty-four percent of the fish sampled in the fall of 2014 were 9 inches or larger. This in itself is good. The even better news is sampling showed that 2013 produced a really good spawn with many of the fish surviving. The number of crappie between 6 and 7 ½ inches is very encouraging as these fish should begin to reach legal size in the summer and fall of 2015. There are also a good number of crappie around 7 ½ to 8 ½ inches (2 ½ years old) that will be keepers this spring. Crappie fishing is excellent throughout the lake. 2014 fall sampling found 34% of the legal fish sampled were black crappie.
