hi,
going to try some spyder rigging for the first time.
if your running, say a 1/16 oz. jig head on the top dropper line.
you can't fish this two slow or the jig is not going to stay horizontal, correct ?
if so, what can you use on the top, so you can move slower, using artifical lures ?
or am i missing something...

appreciate any help,
dave

You can do this by tying your top jig head with a loop not instead of a dropper. Or you can just run a plain minnow hook on the top if you want. I run a lot of double minnow rigs and on days I feel like I need to add some color I will just put the jig on the minnow hook works fine that way.

what does tying with a loop do ?
also, do you mean when you want to add color, you put put soft palstic on the minnow hook ?

thx,

You can look at the double jig set up on YouTube crappie now has a video on how to tie it. And yes I just put my plastic on the minnow hook. A solid body jig will stay up on the hook better than a tube but both will work.

Get you some Gnats from Donnie at Crappielogic.com. He is a sponsor on the board. Use them on top with a minnow and Jig on the bottom.

I always fish with a 1/8 on bottom and 1/16 12-18" above it on a drop loop. The 1/8 keeps the line steady at faster speeds.

i'll give that a try, thx
how heavy of line can you use on that dropper line ? to keep it stiff and float better....

I use 4 lb clear for trolling. 4-8 should be fine to get the line to do what you want at the speed you want to troll. Good luck!
