I'm in TN this week vacationing and doing a little fishing. Our hotel has a dorm fridge that isn't very cold. I thinking about just putting my cleaned fillets in a cooler in a bag and covering them with ice and draining and recovering each day. Should that keep them cold enough for a few days?

You can add salt if you want it colder.

The re-icing will work fine until you get home. If you want them dry and cold try dry ice. I use them in one of my coolers to keep my catch cold for the weekend. I get my dry ice at Wally World. Just don't store the fillets directly against the dry ice or the filets will be solid frozen! Just keep them separated by a few inches.

Try the blue, flexible, re-useable ice packs that athletes use for swollen & bruised muscles. They cost a bit, but they last forever and can serve double duty. I don't keep fish to munch on, but I use these ice packs to keep my sports drinks cold during a hot summer day on the water - in a cooler of course.

Keep them covered in ice and they'll be fine. I've done it.

Putting them in an ice chest with lots of ice will keep them colder than they would be in a refrigerator

Bag them put a layer of ice on the bottom of the cooler. Now cover the top of the ice with salt , lay the bags on top ,add another layer of ice just enough to cover the bags and salt again, repeat as you add bags cover with ice and salt works great ice last longer all good
