Positive and neg from same battery to trolling motor.
I had everything ran off one battery but recently bought a new battery. Was wondering if I moved my trolling motor wiring over to new battery if the ground would need to be placed on same battery as the power is coming off of
Positive and neg from same battery to trolling motor.
You could hook the batteries in parallel. Otherwise the trolling motor wires will have to go to the same battery like Beshears said.

I"m no electrical engineer but I was always told that if you hook up batteries in series your set up is only as good as your weakest battery. In other words do not hook a new battery in series (parallel)with older batteries.
Firstly the answer is, yes, positive and ground on same battery to trolling motor. Secondly, series and parallel are completely different. Parallel is two batteries hooked up with jumper wires positive to positive and ground to ground. It still only produces 12v but will give you a much longer reserve time. Wired in series means you hook the pos of one to the neg of another. Then you pull off of the other two posts (one ground and one pos) that are not jumped together to produce 24v or 36, if you are running three batteries.

I too have a question about this. I am adding a second battery. I currently have a 27 and I'm adding a size 29. once i hook these up parallel will it matter if the trolling motor is physically hooked up to one and my sonar is Physically hooked up to the other battery?
Thanks!
Yes...it could cause interferrance to your fish finder. Also never mix batterys...If you run two in parallel or in series they need to be same age, type, and group size. If not....then the weaker one will gradually pull the other one down to its level.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
