New GPS info

Found a couple of ore websites that have good info regardless of whether of the fact that it is fro Garin (my GPS unit is Garmin)

Those garmin PDF manuals are excellent sources of information. They are very detailed and complex but they cover about the entire gamit of information that one needs to truely understand how the GPS works and how to use it with the USGS 7.5 Quadrangle Topo Maps.

It also shows how the UTM system works and why map datums are so critical to the accuracy of a gps unit.

While I don't pretend to understand all the higher math that is used to do the map datums I understand that it's important to getting good accuracy.

Anyone wanting to read this stuff may want to take a few days off and grab a pot of hot coffee as this is not a easy read.
