Default If I had to take a guess...

..I'd say it's from the little "dance" you make the lure do in an effort to get the fish to bite. Suppose I need to dig out the dictionary and see what Noah (or is it Daniel?) Webster has to say about it. - Roberta

    Default jiggle

Am betting it is the word jiggle shortened. You jiggle when you dance don't you? So to jig, is to make the lure dance.
