keep tryin. look for murker water it tends to be warmer
Hi board
I just started fishing a few weeks ago since about 20 years ago. I am trying to figure out how to catch Crappie this time a year on Cherokee Lake in TN where I live. If anybody has any pointers or suggestions to help me catch a few, that would be great. I have some crappie flies and jigs and bought some minnows but no luck so far. Is it too cold? Also bought my first boat few months ago, got a depth finder and am seeing baitfish down there, but so far only caught a Hybrid bass on a hopkins spoon.
Thanks,
James

James, first of all, welcome to crappie.com, from louisiana.
If you start a thread on the Tenn. board, I am sure they would be more than willing to give you advice, matter of fact, there is a thread about Cherokee right near the top. Who knows, it may be one of your neighbors...lol.... Here is the link to the Cherokee post.

You can't fish with a hung line!
Welcome aboard James, That Tenn. board sounds like some good advice.
You also might want to looki for cover with that depthfinder, cause thats where they'll be hiding.

2 things
Just go do it. Nothing beats water time.
Learn from those around you. Go to tackle shops and just ask a few questions, and be a monkey (monkey see monkey do). Thats what I call the guys who see me slammin them and come and copy me.
I guess there are 3 things. Spend a lot of time here. This is the best source there is for learning all things crappie.
Good luck and have fun.
Good things come to those who bait.
Welcome to the board James, from lower Arkansas. You'll find a lot of good information here.
A bad day of fishing
beats a good day at work.

Welcome James, from Virginia.
I agree with GRIZZ. Time on the water - there's no substitute. And after that, come back here with the questions. People here are the best and love to help. Welcome and Merry Christmas!
hey james welcome. folks are tearing em up in n. alabama so i dont think its to cold in tenn. about everything i know has already been said but stay out there theyll come. here they seemed to be grouping together more so lately so they may be harder to find but when you do you may catch a bunch.
Welcome from central Kentucky. The guys above are correct. Get out on the water learn the lake and structure. Then read everything you can here.
