Which would you use

Got a Bazooka Rod storage case for free - I want to have my Sister in law make rod socks so they don't get banged up inside. Now which would you use for the rod socks: Fleece or Flannel???

Think you would get more padding from the Fleece. One thing I would do is put some good padding in the end caps.

I bought some rod socks from Cabela's a few years ago. They were a thick cotton or polyester.

I have made some years back for myself and a friend that had a Bamboo fly rod (his Dad's). I used flannel due to the bulk of the material. Fleece would have worked for mine but I was told that fleece needed to be sewn on a serger machine to be done right, and I didn't have one. A good flannel can be found on the discount rack as color doesn't matter. 2 pieces of foam for cushioning the middle of the rods as they are stuffed into the tube helps stop vibration. Tip cushioning is important, just don't overdo it. Too stiff a piece of foam can be as bad as none. Mark Sosin used a towel to wrap the middle before traveling with them. His tube was 8" pvc, and carried lots of salt water rods.
