I would guess because dogs shed
When a Dog has Surgery the area is shaved. As the hair regrows it seems to get to the Length for the Breed. If it is always Growing , Why, does it Not get longer?

the hair has different phases of growth but a lot of the time the hair is just not growing. also, dogs of different breeds, the hair length is genetically determined so the hair length is only as long as genetics say it will be..and as G referred to they do shed which is usually determined by day length...so in answer to the specific question asked...the hair is not always growing...in fact it not growing most of the time....

Thanks VET !!!! I Figured Genetics had a lot to do with it. I always wondered if it did stop growing
I think my genetics kicked in on the top of my head.
Tal, do you think you could transplant some poodle hair onto Danny head. That would look cool. lol
