    Default Help from the pros

I have always been a bass fisherman. I would occasionally crappie fish from the dock. And would usually have success. Last year I sold my bass boat. And decided to take up crappie fishing. I have a hard time getting on crappie. What am I missing. I look for under water brush piles. And jig fish. Having a hard time. Any suggestions or tips will he greatly appreciated. Thanks

Not a pro but catching fish is relative to the time of year.Learn what fish do at different times of the year and your success will go up greatly.Pick a technique you like and master it then move on to other techniques.Good luck.

    1. Spend a day with a good local guide.

    2. Hook up with some of the other Arkansas guys: http://www.crappie.com/crappie/arkansas/

Thanks for the advice. I am manly interested in jig fishing. I would like to be able to pin point the depth for time of year. And locate the fish via electronics

In the beginners and mentoring forum, Cane pole posted a depth versus temperature chart that might help you. This time of year with the water hovering around 50 I fish deep and see very little activity in less than 20 or 25 fow. Try using a shad imitation, say a Bobby Garland Baby Shad on a 1/8 head(I like minnow heads) and drop it on those marks you see on the depth finder. Everything around here is gorging on shad this time of year and whatever is down there will probably hit and let you begin to understand what you're seeing. I've been fishing about 30' deep in 45 fow.
